Hey Laura,
Hope things are well. What’s the best iphone 4 app for shooting video? I’m using my iphone for shooting student speeches for their review and would like to capture in lower resolution. Is that possible? Thanks for any thoughts on this.
Marco
Hello Marco,
That’s great that you’re using your iPhone 4 to tape your students!
I just looked up your question about recording at a lower resolution on the iPhone 4 and here’s what I found in online in MacWorld article, Answers to your iPhone 4 Questions:
“Yes, you can shoot video with the front-facing camera just as you would with the rear-facing camera. However, the resolution of the front camera is much lower than that of the other camera—640 by 480 pixels versus 1280 by 720—so you won’t get HD quality.”
So if you want to shoot lower resolution video, turn your camera to record out the front. there’s a camera icon in the upper right corner of the camera app on your iphone with some arrows on either side of it. This controls whether you record out the front or the back of the camera.
This is the only way that I know of or can find to record in a lower resolution.
The only other video camera app I would recommend is called “Filmic Pro” It’s a steal at $2.99.
It gives you more functionality over recording the video with the iPhone 4 such as shooting in 24fps. (the iPhone 4 built in camera app records all video at 30fps) You can read about it on the link I sent you.
The only thing with Filmic Pro is you have to make sure to let the app finish processing your video after you shoot it, (don’t close out the app or turn your camera off) or you’ll lose the video.
There’s also a bit of a process of transferring the video you shot to your photos app on the iPhone 4 so you can get them off of the phone and into your computer.
I hope this helps! 20K Classes is actually teaching a class on shooting and editing with the iPhone 4 in Sept. in Chicago.
